5th July 2010The William Parker Sports College will attempt to win a third successive title when the English Schools Team Championship gets underway at Came Down Golf Club in Dorset on Wednesday 7th July.
The boys from Sussex won the title at Penn in Wolverhampton in 2008 and successfully defended at Thetford last year with 81 Stableford points after finishing runners-up at Coventry Hearsall in 2007.
The William Parker line-up (picture © Tom Ward) will include two of last year’s victorious team in Steven Gibbs and David Wicks while their third man this time is Lewis Tiltman.
There are three other schools making another appearance in the championship, Balby Carr Community Sports and Science College from Yorkshire, Culcheth High School from Lancashire and St Michael’s RC School from County Durham.
Several counties will field more than one team, such as Hampshire with The Mountbatten School and Hampshire Collegiate College and Lancashire with Culcheth High Lancaster Royal Grammar School.
There are no all-girl teams but several contain girls, namely the Mountbatten with Emily Munns, Abby Evans with St George’s Academy from Lincolnshire, and Alice Lowe with Ecclesbourne School from Derbyshire.
A total of 26 teams are competing over 18 holes with the best two Stableford scores from three to count.
Play starts at 09.00am, admission is free. For those unable to attend, live scoring and news updates are available on the Championships section of EGU website www.englishgolfunion.org.
